Getting Unstuck
How long have you been longing for change? For something in your life to shift or be different? Perhaps there is a pattern or behaviour that feels hard to unravel alone, or maybe you find yourself stuck in a set of circumstances you have long outgrown. It might feel impossible, isolating, uncertain, and each path you tread leads you back to the same spot.
We can never expect change to happen if we shame and condemn ourselves. When we view our behaviour/pattern/addiction/situation/illness (whatever it might be) with judgement and self-criticism we immediately move into a place of resistance and tension and the process becomes harder. However, how would it feel to explore it with curiosity, gentle inquiry and honesty? Letting go of the idea that you are doing anything wrong, and instead, recognising that there is a part of you that just needs to be seen and heard. Then it becomes possible to begin to explore what is happening, to challenge perceptions and beliefs, and then to begin to be able to let go of the things that are no longer serving you.
Often illness brings with it an important message if we can pause to listen. The body and mind and intricately connected - think for a moment about how a cold sets in just as you finish work to go on holiday (just as you relax!) or the churning stomach before an exam or interview. Emotions are energy-in-motion, they come and they go. But what happens when we push them down or ignore them altogether? Perhaps as a child you learnt that it wasn't safe to show emotion - or maybe it is uncomfortable or frightening to allow the emotion. Over time we can become accustomed to not feeling, rather than feeling, and that's okay, it's survival. Pain and illness are complex and there are always emotional layers attached, perceptions, judgements, and so on. Sometimes it's just a matter of really listening to what the body is trying to say.
